Brent Bruehl Memorial is the City of Purcell's public golf course, on Chandler Park Road. Golf there began in the 1920s with nine holes of sand greens; grass greens opened in 1970, and Mike Gowens designed the final stretch of holes, which opened in 1995. In April 1978 the town renamed the Purcell Golf Course in honor of Brent Bruehl, a star Purcell golfer who died of cancer in 1977. Today it is an 18-hole par 71 that plays from about 5,000 to 6,300 yards, with a driving range and practice greens.
