Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club

Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club traces to the early 1910s, when a group of city residents organized a club south of downtown. Late that decade, developer G.A. Nichols, building his Nichols Hills subdivision, engaged Perry Maxwell to route a championship course as the neighborhood's centerpiece; it opened in 1929. The club soon traded its original grounds for the Nichols Hills property and clubhouse, settling there permanently in the early 1930s. Maxwell's routing survives largely intact and is regarded as one of his finest inland designs, full of the tilted, boldly contoured greens that became his signature. The club hosted the 1953 U.S. Amateur, won by Gene Littler over Dale Morey, and today anchors the collegiate Jackson T. Stephens Cup.
