Prairie Dunes

Prairie Dunes Country Club sits amid the sandhills outside Hutchinson, Kansas, founded in the mid-1930s by the Emerson Carey family, who commissioned architect Perry Maxwell to route a course through the rolling dunes. Maxwell's original nine holes opened in 1937 and stood alone for two decades. When the club expanded to a full eighteen in 1957, Maxwell had died, so his son Press Maxwell designed the additional nine, blending three holes into the front and six into the back to complete the layout. Widely praised as one of the finest inland links-style courses in America, Prairie Dunes has hosted numerous USGA championships, including the 1986 Curtis Cup, the 2002 U.S. Women's Open won by Juli Inkster over Annika Sorenstam, and the 2006 U.S. Senior Open won by Allen Doyle. It is scheduled to host future U.S. Senior Open championships as well.
