Shangri-La sits on Monkey Island on Grand Lake o' the Cherokees in northeast Oklahoma. The resort's first golf course came in the 1970s, and a second followed in 1982, both designed by Donald Sechrest. The property went bankrupt in 1986 and passed through several owners before falling into disrepair. After Eddy Gibbs bought it in 2010, the old courses were replaced with a 27-hole championship complex, its nines called Champions, Heritage and Legends, plus the Battlefield par-3 course. Golfweek ranks Shangri-La among the best public-access courses in Oklahoma.
