About James E. Stewart G. C.

This City of Oklahoma City municipal nine-hole course sits in northeast OKC on Frederick Douglass Avenue, in a historically Black part of the city, and was formerly known as the Douglass Golf Course. In 1999 it was rebuilt as a Randy Heckenkemper design and renamed to honor James E. Stewart, one of Oklahoma's civil rights leaders - a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Black Dispatch columnist, Oklahoma City NAACP branch president, three-term national NAACP board member and Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductee. The course today partners with the First Tee of Metropolitan Oklahoma City.
