TPC Scottsdale Champions Course

The Champions Course began life as the Desert Course, the second layout at TPC Scottsdale, opening in 1987 alongside its celebrated sibling, the Stadium Course, host of the WM Phoenix Open. Both were originally designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. Where the Stadium Course was built for tournament spectacle and enormous galleries, the Desert Course was the quieter, everyday resort and municipal option. In 2007, twenty years on, the course was completely rebuilt under architect Randy Heckenkemper, who had worked on Weiskopf's original design team. Every hole was reworked, the layout stretched from roughly 6,423 to about 7,100 yards, and the 17th converted from a par 4 to a par 5, settling the course at par 71. Reflecting its new tournament-quality build and honoring the game's champions, the reborn course was renamed the Champions Course.
