Dakota Dunes Country Club

Dakota Dunes Country Club anchors a 2,000-acre planned community tucked into the wooded bottomlands where the Big Sioux meets the Missouri River, just across the state line from Sioux City. Arnold Palmer and his longtime design partner Ed Seay routed the course through cottonwoods, wetlands, and prairie grasses, and Palmer himself played a ceremonial round when it opened in August 1991. Water and native areas frame many holes, giving the layout a quiet, riparian character rather than a manufactured one. The club quickly earned a national profile by hosting the Dakota Dunes Open, a stop on professional golf's developmental tour from 1993 through 2001, where a number of players used strong finishes as a springboard toward the game's top level.
