Deer Island Country Club

Deer Island Country Club in Tavares opened in 1994 on a 400-acre island between Lake Dora and Lake Beauclair, billed as Central Florida's only island golf course. Joe Lee called it the most unique design of his career, and it earned a 4-star Golf Magazine rating. After bankruptcy and foreclosure under earlier owners, it was bought by local nursery owner Wally Owens. It sits in a small gated community and is listed as semi-private.
