About Denver Country Club
Denver Country Club, founded in 1887, is widely regarded as the oldest country club west of the Mississippi River and home to Colorado's oldest golf course. In 1896 it became the first club west of the Mississippi admitted to the United States Golf Association. Early golf began at the club's original Overland Park grounds before it settled at its present location near Cherry Creek in the early 1900s, where a course attributed to Chicago champion and architect James Foulis took shape in a classic, Scottish-influenced style of ditches, bunkers, and demanding greens. Over the following century the layout was reworked by a remarkable roster of architects, including Donald Ross, William Flynn, and later Bill Coore and Gil Hanse, giving it an unusually deep design lineage for any American club.
