Golf on Jamestown dates to the Conanicut Golf Club of 1895, but the present course began in 1901 when Edwin Littlefield leased his farm to the Jamestown Golf and Country Club and H. A. Findlay of Boston laid out nine holes around the pastures. Francis and Lily Costa bought the course in 1953 and sold it to the Town of Jamestown in 1986. It is often described as one of the oldest nine-hole courses in the country.
