Real estate developer Justin Matthews built this course in the late 1920s as Sylvan Hills Country Club, serving residents of his Park Hill and Sylvan Hills developments. The club closed during the Great Depression, was reorganized by former members after World War II and was renamed North Hills Country Club in 1956. Robert Trent Jones Sr. redesigned the course in 1977. After the club closed in 2007, the City of Sherwood bought the property and runs it as a public course; it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
