TPC Summerlin

TPC Summerlin opened in 1991 as the anchor golf amenity of Summerlin, the sprawling master-planned community developed by the Howard Hughes-linked Summa Corporation and named for Hughes's grandmother. PGA Tour staff architect Bobby Weed designed the par-72 layout with player consultant Fuzzy Zoeller, routing ribbons of turf across the harsh Mojave landscape, weaving through natural barrancas and framing fairways with pines, creosote and native desert scrub. Zoeller's stated aims were fan-friendly golf: clear targets off the tee, room to run approaches onto greens, and subtle putting contours. Weed's team preserved native grasses and wildlife habitat during construction, making it Nevada's first course certified as an Audubon Sanctuary. A private club, it is best known as the longtime host of the PGA Tour's fall stop, now the Shriners Children's Open.
