About Tpc Tampa Bay
TPC Tampa Bay opened in 1991 in Lutz, north of the city, designed by PGA Tour architect Bobby Weed with World Golf Hall of Famer Chi Chi Rodriguez serving as player consultant. Weed routed the layout through stands of live oak and cypress, using hundreds of thousands of yards of fill to contour fairways, aid drainage against tropical storms and build spectator mounds. The result is a shot-maker's course of wide fairways and large greens averaging around 6,400 square feet. As a Tournament Players Club, it was built with professional golf in mind and has hosted PGA Tour Champions events for more than two decades, from the GTE Suncoast Classic and GTE Classic through the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, and twice staged the tour's Q-School final stage.
