Walt Disney World's golf operation in Lake Buena Vista dates to the resort's 1971 opening, when the Magnolia and Palm courses debuted on October 1, 1971, the same day as the Magic Kingdom. The Lake Buena Vista course followed in 1972, and the 9-hole walking course Oak Trail (a Ron Garl design) was added later; the three championship courses are the work of architect Joe Lee. The complex hosted a PGA Tour event for decades (roughly 1971-2012).
