Whispering Pines Golf Course in Meadville first opened in 1965. It was designed and built on the property of PGA professional "Pop" Alex. The course was sold to a small group of investors in 1995, and from the mid-1990s more than 100,000 cubic yards of earth were moved to build ponds, mounds and new tees, while the irrigation system was expanded.
