Apple Valley opened in 1972 east of Mount Vernon, designed by Bill Newcomb and John Robinson. The Mickley family has run it since 1982. It hosted the 1977 NCAA Division III national championship and has since held the Ohio Public Links and high school regionals. A new clubhouse opened in 2002.
