Spencer Oldham, a Baltimore club professional, laid out the original 18 holes beside the hotel in 1895. A.W. Tillinghast revised the course in 1912 and reduced it to nine holes. Donald Ross rebuilt and expanded it back to 18 holes in 1923, reusing existing holes in many cases. Pennsylvania architect Ron Forse led a restoration, and the course reopened in 2007.
