About Charleston Municipal Golf Course

Known locally as "The Muni," Charleston Municipal Golf Course opened in 1929 and is one of the oldest public courses in the Charleston area -- a civic institution for affordable Lowcountry golf. In 2020 it underwent a celebrated public/private renovation led by architect Troy Miller and supported by the nonprofit Friends of the Muni; Miller rebuilt the greens and bunkers in a Seth Raynor / C.B. Macdonald "template" style and raised several holes to address chronic flooding. The grassroots preservation effort drew national coverage as a model for saving a beloved municipal course, and it reopened in December 2020. The original 1929 architect is not well documented.
