Dismal River Club

Dismal River Club sits deep in the Nebraska Sandhills near Mullen, a remote expanse of grass-covered dunes that has become one of American golf's most unlikely destinations. The club's first eighteen, the White Course, was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2006, a par-72 routing that uses elevated tees and the region's rumpled dune terrain for panoramic prairie vistas. In 2013 the club added a second, complementary layout, the Red Course by Tom Doak, a shorter par-71 that leans into the natural minimalism and firm, fescued ground the Sandhills are prized for. Having two contrasting championship courses, one bold and one understated, on the same wild property is a large part of Dismal River's appeal. The remote private club later broadened into a full outdoor retreat, adding lodging and guided experiences such as hunting, fishing, kayaking, and horseback riding, so that a golf trip to the middle of Nebraska became a genuine multi-day escape.
