Desert Mountain Cochise Golf Course

The Cochise Course sits high in the Sonoran foothills of north Scottsdale as part of Desert Mountain, the sprawling private club where Jack Nicklaus designed a remarkable run of desert courses. Cochise opened in 1988 as the second of those layouts, and Nicklaus has called it one of the most picturesque courses he has built. Its national reputation was cemented as host of The Tradition, a marquee Champions Tour event held here from 1989 through 2001; Nicklaus himself won the title four times on ground he designed. The Senior PGA Tour repeatedly recognized Cochise for its conditioning during that stretch. The course later welcomed the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, the tour's season finale, in 2012 and again in the mid-2010s. A restoration has since refreshed the greens and bunkering while preserving Nicklaus's original character.
