About Shoal Creek

Shoal Creek opened in 1977 as a Jack Nicklaus design southeast of Birmingham. It has hosted the PGA Championship twice — 1984 (Lee Trevino) and 1990 (Wayne Grady). The 1990 event became a national flashpoint over the club's lack of Black members, prompting reforms in how golf organizations vet host clubs. It later hosted the 2018 U.S. Women's Open and the 1986 U.S. Amateur.
