Eagle Eye opened in 2003 on the open ground north of Lansing in Bath, part of the Hawk Hollow golf complex. Chris Lutzke, a longtime design associate of Pete Dye, drew the routing, and Dye's influence shows throughout: railroad-tie bulkheads, severe mounding, pot bunkers and a links-style openness across the outward holes before the round turns into a corridor of trees. The most talked-about hole is the par-3 17th, a short one-shotter to an island green that pays clear homage to Dye's famous 17th at TPC Sawgrass. The course drew national attention almost immediately, ranking among Golf Digest's best new courses, and it has since hosted the Michigan Amateur and remained a regular on the state's best-public rankings, prized for its shot values and risk-reward temptations.
