About El Paso Country Club
El Paso Country Club is one of the oldest private golf clubs in Texas, founded April 25, 1906 by eleven founding members. The club moved to its current location in El Paso's Upper Valley in 1922 following a land gift from Zack T. White, and that is where the present 18-hole course was built. It sits in the Chihuahuan Desert near the Rio Grande against the backdrop of the Franklin Mountains. Design attribution is uncertain -- secondary sources variously credit Tom Bendelow, a 1922 A.W. Tillinghast involvement, Jack Harden and a later Ron Fream renovation -- and the club's own history page names no architect.
