Emerald Canyon opened in November 1989 as a nine-hole course, owned by La Paz County, and grew to 18 holes a year later. It is a Bill Phillips design in the canyons above the Colorado River near Parker. Its ponds double as habitat for two endangered native fish, the razorback sucker and the bonytail chub, earning recognition from the American Fisheries Society.
