Fairview opened in the late 1950s at the base of the South Gretna mountains, and GolfNow lists 1959 as the year it was built. In July 2004 an F-3 tornado touched down on the course and damaged more than 375 trees; with help from hundreds of volunteers, it reopened seven days later. A 2005 redesign by Jim Blaukovitch's design team planted new trees, added bunkers, rebuilt the tees and created a water hazard on the 10th hole.
