About Grand Canyon University Golf Course

Opened in 1961 as Maryvale Golf Course, a City of Phoenix municipal course designed by William F. "Billy" Bell and built as part of developer John F. Long's Maryvale community on former west Phoenix farmland. Facing yearly operating losses, the city agreed in October 2014 to let neighboring Grand Canyon University redesign and manage the course for 30 years. After a multimillion-dollar John Fought renovation, it reopened in January 2016 as Grand Canyon University Golf Course, still city-owned and open to the public.
