Hillview opened as a golf course in 1931 on land that had been Holt's Farm (circa 1795). It was incorporated as the Red Hill / Olde Redding Country Club in 1941 by owner Harvey Kelch, became the members-only Hillview Country Club in the 1950s, and in 1988 the Town of North Reading acquired the property by eminent domain to run it as a municipal course, which it remains today.
