About Hominy Hill Golf Course
Hominy Hill was built in 1964 as a private retreat, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design commissioned by businessman Henry Mercer largely for the enjoyment of family and friends. Late in Mercer's life the property was sold to Monmouth County with the condition that it forever remain a public golf facility, and it has been operated by the Monmouth County Park System ever since. The classic Jones layout stretches beyond 7,000 yards from the back tees, defended by roughly 138 bunkers and water on several holes, giving it genuine championship teeth. It has hosted the USGA Amateur Public Links championship twice along with numerous regional events, and is regularly rated among New Jersey's best public courses. Its combination of length, strategic bunkering and conditioning keeps it a favorite of Garden State golfers.
