The Senator opened in 1999 at Capitol Hill in Prattville, the eighth site on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, developed by the Retirement Systems of Alabama. GolfPass credits Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Roger Rulewich with the design. Built on a former cotton field, it is a links-style layout with high mounds and pot bunkers. The course hosted the Navistar LPGA Classic from 2007 to 2012 and the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic from 2014 to 2016.
