RTJ Oxmoor Valley Golf

Oxmoor Valley, tucked into the wooded hills just southwest of Birmingham, was the very first Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail site to open, welcoming play in May 1992. The land, 650 acres of former mining terrain donated by U.S. Steel, was transformed into a 54-hole complex funded by the Retirement Systems of Alabama, with Birmingham and Jefferson County supplying roads and utilities. Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed the two championship layouts, the Ridge and the Valley, plus an 18-hole par-3 Short Course. The Ridge is the more dramatic of the pair, tumbling over steep, undulating terrain with sharp elevation changes, downhill tee shots and long views across the countryside, while the gentler Valley course winds through the lower ground. Together they helped launch a statewide trail that reshaped Alabama's golf and tourism identity.
