Cambrian Ridge

Cambrian Ridge sits in the rolling terrain northwest of Greenville in Butler County, roughly forty minutes south of Montgomery. It opened in October 1993 as one of the marquee stops on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the ambitious public-golf network conceived by David Bronner and the Retirement Systems of Alabama and shaped by architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. The complex fans out into three distinct nines: Loblolly, framed by towering loblolly pines; Canyon, which tumbles through dramatic elevation changes; and Sherling, playing around Lake Sherling, plus a par-3 short course. The dramatic Sherling opening tee shot drops sharply toward the fairway and remains one of the Trail's signature moments. In 1994 Golf Digest ranked Cambrian Ridge among the best new public courses in America, cementing its reputation early.
