Why we love this place

We love JaTo Highlands for the moment Katahdin shows up over the hardwoods. It is honest north-woods golf: rolling hills, tricky domed greens, and a friendly pace far from the coastal crowds. A course that rewards straight hitting and sends you home talking about the views.

About Jato Highlands

JaTo Highlands Golf Course opened in 1999 in Lincoln, in Maine's Penobscot River country, with the stated mission of offering a pleasurable round to golfers of every level. Course directories credit the design to Tom Gardner. The semi-private eighteen plays to a par of 72 across rolling hills and through stands of hardwood forest, and its higher ground opens up views of Mount Katahdin along with the surrounding lakes and hills. At a little under 6,000 yards from the back tees, the layout rewards accuracy more than raw length, and reviewers have noted its domed greens and an elevated, old-style feel. In 2024 the club outlined a round of improvements, including a new clubhouse with a restaurant, reworked landscaping at the 18th tee and 17th green, new drainage and bunkers on the 15th hole, and an expanded 10th hole, a sign of continued investment in one of northern Maine's most scenic public layouts.
