Cape Arundel Golf Club

Cape Arundel Golf Club was founded in 1896 as the Kennebunkport Golf Club, among the earliest clubs in the United States. An original nine took shape around the turn of the century, but by the early 1920s the layout had outlived its usefulness, and the club commissioned the celebrated amateur champion and architect Walter J. Travis to build a new course along the Kennebunk River. Travis's compact, cleverly bunkered design, with its distinctive crowned greens, remains largely intact and is regarded as one of his enduring works. The club is deeply tied to the Bush and Walker families: Prescott Bush served as a USGA president, and George H.W. Bush won the club championship in 1947. In 2011 the clubhouse was renamed 41 House in his honor.
