About East Potomac Golf Links

East Potomac's first nine opened in March 1921 on reclaimed land in East Potomac Park, and Walter J. Travis designed the original 18 holes (today's Blue Course), built between 1918 and 1923. It hosted the USGA's Amateur Public Links in 1923. In 1941 Black golfers who tried to play were attacked with stones; Interior Secretary Harold Ickes granted them access, and three played under protection of U.S. Marshals that July, an early push to desegregate the capital's public courses.
