Biddeford Saco Country Club

Donald Ross (original nine); Brian Silva (completed back nine to Ross's plan)
Why we love this place

We love Biddeford-Saco for its Donald Ross heart and championship pedigree. A Ross design finished decades later by Brian Silva, a farmhouse clubhouse and a long list of Maine Amateurs make it a serious yet friendly test. Classic southern Maine golf, done right.

About Biddeford Saco Country Club

Biddeford-Saco Country Club dates to the early 1920s, with its first recorded club champions crowned in 1922. The club began as a classic country club with a newly designed Donald Ross course, but only nine of the planned holes were built at first. Its clubhouse occupies the refurbished original farmhouse of the Kelly property, set between Saco and Old Orchard Beach. Ross's plan waited decades to be finished: in the mid-1980s the club hired architect Brian Silva to complete the design, and the back nine was finished alongside a clubhouse renovation by the early 1990s. Membership grew quickly afterward, and the club adopted a by-law capping individual members at 500. Biddeford-Saco has long been a championship venue, hosting the Maine Amateur in 1930, 1991, 2008, and 2020, the Maine Women's Amateur in 2015 and 2024, and the 2019 New England Senior Amateur. Former President George H.W. Bush was on hand for the 2008 Maine Amateur.
