About Bobby Jones Golf Club

Bobby Jones Golf Club is a City of Sarasota municipal course that opened June 5, 1926 on roughly 290 acres the city acquired in 1925, with the 18-hole layout designed by Donald Ross. In February 1927 it was renamed for golf legend Bobby Jones, who personally dedicated it and played a 36-hole exhibition before thousands. The complex later grew to 45 holes, but decades of neglect prompted the city to restore Ross's original design using his plans from the Tufts Archives; architect Richard Mandell led the restoration, completed in 2023.
