About The Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park

The Lakes is the state-park course at Laura S. Walker State Park outside Waycross, near the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp. Golf Course News reported that it officially opened on March 2, 1996, designed by Steve Burns's Burns Golf Design of Fernandina Beach, Florida. Links-style mounding, native-sand bunkers and waste areas frame three large lakes, and the City of Waycross says Golf Digest voted it the best municipal course in Georgia in 2009.
