Chicopee Woods opened in 1991 on land Johnson & Johnson gave to Gainesville, with construction paid for by a 1 percent Hall County sales tax; the surrounding park is overseen by the Chicopee Woods Park Commission, created in 1980. Its 27 holes are split into three nines, Mill, School and Village, named for the original Chicopee mill community. It is a public course with no homes along the fairways and has hosted Georgia PGA section events and the Georgia Public Links Championship.
