About Mary Calder Golf Club

Mary Calder opened around 1937 as a company course on the grounds of the Union Bag & Paper plant in Savannah. A 1955 trade article describes its clubhouse as the center of social life for the mill's management and employees. The plant later became International Paper's, and the course stayed on as a low-cost public nine operated by CGL Golf. In 2009 the First Tee of Savannah moved there from Bacon Park to reach more young people on the west side and in Garden City. The Wadsworth Golf Charities Foundation paid for nearly half of the $320,000 project, which added a short course and practice areas.
