Raleigh Golf Association, founded in 1929 by a group led by businessman and philanthropist A. E. Finley, is the city's oldest public golf course and one of North Carolina's oldest. It was created to democratize access to golf for the public. Architect George W. Cobb added nine holes in 1958; today the stockholder-owned facility offers 27 holes just minutes from downtown Raleigh. The original architect of the course is not reliably documented.
