About Reynolds Park Golf Course
Reynolds Park Golf Course opened June 1, 1940 as a Winston-Salem municipal course, on about 186 acres donated by R.J. "Dick" Reynolds Jr. together with Depression-era WPA funding, laid out by architect Perry Maxwell. Under segregation it operated as a whites-only facility, and from late November 1953, after a request from Black community leaders, African American golfers were permitted to use the course only on Mondays and Fridays. Winston-Salem's separate course for Black golfers, Winston Lake, opened in 1956.
