Wolf Laurel Country Club

Wolf Laurel sits high in the mountains of western North Carolina, roughly 27 miles north of Asheville, spread across the ridges of Madison and Yancey Counties. W. Bruce Lewis designed the 18-hole championship course as part of a 5,500-acre resort begun in the mid-1960s by the Bald Mountain Development Corporation, whose original plans paired golf with ski slopes still in use today. Elevations swing dramatically, reported from roughly 3,600 feet to near 5,000 feet, making it one of the highest courses east of the Rockies and prized for cool summer air and long mountain views. The nines were reversed in 1991. The name nods to the region's mountain laurel and the grey wolf packs that once roamed here. Sources cite a mid-1960s design with completion around 1970, so no single opening year is confirmed.
