The Woods Golf Club is an Ellis Maples design that opened in 1972 in Whispering Pines, carved from a rolling Sandhills tract. The par-72 layout plays about 6,324 yards; Maples's son Dan described it as built with the average player in mind without being a pushover for better golfers. A major renovation in 2013 installed 18 new Champion Bermuda ultradwarf greens. It is a daily-fee public course, separate from the nearby Country Club of Whispering Pines.
