Woodlake's Maples Course is a 1971 design by Ellis Maples and Ed Seay near Vass. Maples's father, Frank, was Pinehurst's longtime greenkeeper under Donald Ross. Hurricane Matthew breached the lake's dam in 2016, the lake was drained, and the courses closed as the owners went bankrupt. A new owner bought the property at a 2021 foreclosure auction and hired Ross and Maples specialist Kris Spence to rebuild it: new bunkers, irrigation and greens, plus a new 18th hole. It reopened in 2023–24.
