Grandfather Golf & Country Club

Grandfather Golf and Country Club took shape in the mid-1960s when Agnes Aggie MacRae Morton, frustrated by crowded tee times at nearby Linville, set aside part of her family's land near Linville, North Carolina, for a course of her own. She turned to Ellis Maples, a protege of Donald Ross, who built the layout in 1968. Threaded along the Watauga River beneath Grandfather Mountain, the Championship course is widely regarded as Maples's finest work, blending mountain scenery, water, and demanding but fair holes. It has been ranked among the very best courses in North Carolina. The private club sits at high elevation, offering a cool-weather retreat, and remains a beloved fixture of the state's mountain golf scene, valued as much for its natural setting as for its architecture.
