Est. 1922 · John F. Sammons Jr. (mid-1980s redesign)
About Sammons Golf Course
The course traces to December 1922, when the Lake Polk Golf and Country Club opened as a nine-hole auxiliary of the Santa Fe Park Association on Lake Polk, a reservoir the Santa Fe Railroad created in 1892. A second nine was added in the 1950s and the club became Temple Country Club for about 30 years. Former Temple mayor John F. Sammons Jr. pushed for a municipal course open to the whole community and redesigned the entire layout in the mid-1980s, when it took his name. A 2011 redesign installed Emerald Bermuda greens and rerouted both nines, and the par-70, 6,562-yard City of Temple course was named one of GolfPass's Top 25 Most Improved U.S. Courses in 2019.
