About Saucon Valley Country Club
Saucon Valley Country Club was founded in 1920 by a group of local businessmen, many connected to Bethlehem Steel, who commissioned British-born architect Herbert Strong to lay out what is now the Old Course. Construction finished in 1921 and the course opened in 1922. Strong, who came from the Royal St. George's tradition, favored designs that worked with the natural land, and the Old Course reflects that elegant restraint. Over the decades it was refined by William Gordon and Perry Maxwell, with a more recent restoration by Tom Marzolf of the Fazio Group completed in 2008. The Old Course carries a distinguished USGA championship record, including the 1951 U.S. Amateur, U.S. Senior Opens in 1992, 2000 and 2022, the 2009 U.S. Women's Open, and multiple other national amateur championships. It remains one of Pennsylvania's premier tournament venues and part of a celebrated 54-hole club.
