Stonewall

Stonewall sits in the rolling farmland of Chester County near Elverson, Pennsylvania, and holds a special place in modern golf architecture as Tom Doak's first private course design. The Old Course carries a notable origin story: Tom Fazio originally routed the project but had to step away, and recommended a then-little-known Doak to take it over. Working within much of the established routing and assisted by a young Gil Hanse, Doak opened the Old Course in 1993, showcasing the minimalist, ground-game philosophy that would make him one of the era's most celebrated architects. A decade later, in 2003, Doak returned to add the North Course, giving members a contrasting second eighteen. Both courses lean on natural contour, firm turf, and understated green complexes rather than manufactured drama, and Stonewall is widely praised as a purist's private retreat.
