Sunset Hill Golf Course

Est. 1897
Why we love this place

Sunset Hill is a time capsule from Sugar Hill's grand-hotel summers: an 1897 nine-holer with mountain views and a story that reportedly includes Bobby Jones. It's short, charming and unhurried, the kind of round that makes a White Mountains vacation feel complete.

About Sunset Hill Golf Course

The nine-hole course on Sunset Hill Road in Sugar Hill dates to 1897, when the hilltop village was a busy summer resort served by grand hotels. Town histories describe the 1897 Sugar Hill House Golf Course and its 1900 clubhouse as among the oldest in New Hampshire, and Bobby Jones is said to have played the links. The resort era faded once automobiles freed tourists from the limits of rail travel; the Sunset Hill House, the grandest of the town's hotels, closed in 1973 and was demolished in 1974, although its annex survives today as the Inn at Sunset Hill. The golf course endured through all of it. Today it is a short par-33 layout of under 2,000 yards, open to the public from spring into the fall, with mountain views from its high ground.
