Tenison Park Glen

On land donated by Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Tenison in 1924, Tenison became Dallas's first municipally owned golf course, built by banker E.O. Tenison in part as a memorial to a son lost in World War I. The original course was laid out by Jack Burke Sr. and Syd Cooper in 1925, and Ralph Plummer designed a second course in the 1950s; the complex's two 18-hole layouts are today the Glen and the Highlands. The park was famed as a gathering place for Texas golf hustlers, including a young Lee Trevino. Dallas's municipal courses were officially desegregated in 1954, having previously barred Black golfers except on designated days.
